Tanit

Tanit [Di].
Local representation of the Phoenician goddess Asarte as worshipped at CARTHAGE, sometimes referred to as ‘the face of Ba’al'. The symbol of Tanit is a truncated cone surmounted by a disc. In a precinct dedicated to her were buried jars containing the cremated remains of infants sacrificed to her.
