Tanis, Egypt [Si].Substantial temple and cemetery area in the Nile Delta, excavated by Flinders Petrie in 1883–6 and Pierre Montet in 1929–51. Amongst the most significant discoveries were the rich and well-preserved royal tombs of the 21st and 22nd Dynasties (1070–715 BC) constructed in the precincts of the great temple dedicated to AMEN.[Sum.: H.
