Mrs. Rachel Lynde is one of the biggest critics little Anne has. She is the nosy neighbor who is looking constantly out of her window so she can remain up to date on all the latest news in the neighborhood. Mrs. Lynde is the neighbor whose home is located closest to the Cuthberts' residence. Mrs. Lynde never truly understands Anne, nor does she ever truly recognize Anne's non-traditional beauty, but she comes to love Anne as if the girl were one of her own children.
