Her father, Otto Frank, had bought her the diary and given it to her during the time the family hid in the Annexe of his office. She wrote in it, documenting her time in hiding. When the Nazis raided the Annexe, the pages of the diary were strewn on the floor. It ends right before Anne was found in the Annexe and taken to Bergen- Belsen. Miep, who helped the Franks during their hiding, collected the pages of the diary and kept them in safe keeping until Mr. Frank returned. Seeing the thoughts of his dead daughter proved to be moving and after some editing, Mr. Frank published the diary of his daughter as a testament to both her and the experiences of the Holocaust.
