   Miep Gies is an employee of the warehouse in which the apartment and the Secret Annex is hidden.  She and her husband help the people hiding in the Annex by bringing them food, supplies, and news from the outside.  When the hideaway is discovered and the fugitives taken away, Miep goes to the Gestapo to try to secure their release, but is unsuccessful.  It is she who finds Anne's diary in the abandoned Annex, and holds onto it for safekeeping.  After the War is over, she returns it to Anne's father, Mr. Frank, the only surviving member of his family.  Mr. Frank makes the decision to publish the diary, first in Dutch, then in English.

   Miep Gies is still living, and resides in Amsterdam in the Netherlands.
