Anita Desai is a well-known short-story writer as well as a novelist. Her first story was published in 1957, when she was twenty years old. Since then, she has contributed stories to magazines and periodicals such as Envoy (London), Quest (Bombay), The Illustrated Weekly of India (Bombay), and Miscellany (Calcutta).
