There are three major categories of characters in "Animal Farm". The first major types of characters are humans. Generally they are portrayed as uncaring, incompetents who fail to take care of their farms and responsibilities. These include Farmer Jones, Mr. Pilkington and Mr. Frederick. The second category of characters include the pigs. The pigs are personified as power-hungary, dishonest and dictatorial. They include Napoleon, Snowball and Squealer. The exception is Old Major, a respected prize winning boar who predicts the revolution. The final category of characters include the farm animals. They are portrayed as hard-working, naive victims of both the humans and the pigs. They include Boxer, Clover, Benjamin, Mollie, the chickens and the sheep.
