In "Animal Farm," what similarities are there between the language used by in Minimus' poem about Napoleon and the language of hymns?

    Great question! There are many similarities. I like to start with the basics: both are written in verse. After that, move up the level of complexity. Both use alliteration (repeating the same first consonant sounds) and more general repetition. You can see this in the repeated "F" sounds in the poem's first lines, and in the repeated use of "Comrade Napoleon." The repetitions build momentum, and create a sense of ritual.  Putting the repetition of "Comrade Napoleon" at the end helps emphasize his importance. Both hymns and this poem use figures of speech to elevate their subject matter; both use rhyme to create a sense of unity, binding the work (and listeners) together.
