Posted by pohnpei397 on Saturday November 7, 2009 at 7:27 PMIn George Orwell's "Animal Farm" there are many instances in which the animals are lied to by the leaders of Animal Farm. I would argue that these instances are meant to represent the government using the media to keep people under control.
For example, as conditions get worse and worse on the farm, Squealer keeps reading lists of facts that show that things are actually better than they used to be and that there is really plenty of food.
As another example, the commandments on the barn wall keep getting changed so that they will not contradict what the leaders are doing.
In both of these cases, the leaders are controlling the information their followers are receiving, just as the Soviet government did by controlling the media.
