Napoleon is the allegorical figure through which Orwell scathingly satirised Josef Stalin the ruthless dictator of Communist Russia. Napoleon runs the farm in as cruel and selfish manner as possible. He exploits the animals to the maximum extent possible denying them all creature comforts while he himself lives a luxurious life. Certainly, no one would support his leadership. Orwell's intention in introducing the character Napoleon is to warn the readers of the dangers of the system of authorititarian dictatorship. Posted by lit24 on Jan 16, 2009. |
