If humans dream of humans why wouldn't Androids dream of electric sheep?

Just a general question trying to understand how the Androids think.

    A fine question. Sure, if humans dream of humans, androids should dream of themselves. However, a classic cure for insomnia was to count sheep. (The idea is essentially to bore yourself to death.) You can then see humans in dozens of classic cartoons dreaming of the sheep they were counting. By analogy, androids would then dream of electric sheep when they couldn't sleep.

    The question, though, also points to a theme of the novel: how close are humans and machines, and how different? Would androids have similar thought patterns?
