Sammy's last words that the world will be a harder place for him from now on are a mark of maturity. He had childishly tried to get noticed by Queenie and her bees. Then, he quit in a huff over the way the Lengel chastizes the girls for the way they are dressed. Both of these actions show an immature impetuosity. Sammy never thought ( with his mind) but instead simply reacted to his emotions. This is a child's method of dealing with reality. His actions don't get him attention from Queenie nor Lengel to change his mind. Sammy is the one who loses his job. But as he walks out the door, he begins to see that his actions were rash. From now on he will have to think about the consequences of his actions before he blows up. Life will be harder now that he will have to face reality, but he will also be acting more like an adult.
