I would certainly consider him heroic. Although at one time he was a prince, he never felt that entitled him to feel superiority. He believes in hard work, economic independence, and helping whenever possible. He take sin Polly Burdoo, who has been freed, because her family cannot afford her. He saved money to buy his sister's freedom, in case he is ever able to find her. Amos does not react with violence when provoked, and has the self-respect to guide him in his pursuits.
