Introduction

Washington College, founded in 1782, is an independent college offering programs in the liberal arts and sciences, business management, and teacher preparation. The library contains 244,000 volumes, 250,000 microform items, and 6500 audio/video tapes/CDs/DVDs, and subscribes to 900 periodicals including electronic. Computerized library services include the card catalog, interlibrary loans, database searching, and Internet access. Special learning facilities include a learning resource center, the Center for the American Experience, and the Center for Environment and Society. The 112-acre campus is in a small town 75 miles from Baltimore. Including any residence halls, there are 52 buildings.
