Introduction

Salve Regina University, founded in 1934 and sponsored by the Sisters of Mercy, is an independent institution affiliated with the Roman Catholic Church. The university offers programs in liberal arts, business, health science, and professional training. In addition to regional accreditation, Salve has baccalaureate program accreditation with CSWE, IACBE, NASAD, and NLN. The library contains 139,161 volumes, 43,146 microform items, and 19,420 audio/video tapes/CDs/DVDs, and subscribes to 1041 periodicals including electronic. Computerized library services include the card catalog, interlibrary loans, database searching, Internet access, and laptop Internet portals. Special learning facilities include a learning resource center, art gallery, radio station, and information systems and computer science labs. The 75-acre campus is in a suburban area on Newport's waterfront, 60 miles south of Boston. Including any residence halls, there are 45 buildings.
