The ACT scores for the 2005-2006 freshman class were: 48% below 21, 35% between 21 and 23, 13% between 24 and 26, 3% between 27 and 28, and 1% above 28. 50% of the current freshmen were in the top fifth of their class; 82% were in the top two fifths. 6 freshmen graduated first in their class.
Admissions Requirements
The SAT or ACT is required. In addition, applicants must be graduates of an accredited secondary school or have a GED, having successfully completed 12 academic credits, including 4 in English, 3 each in math and science, and 2 in social studies. A GPA of 2.25 is required. AP and CLEP credits are accepted. Important factors in the admissions decision are leadership record, recommendations by alumni, and recommendations by school officials.
Admissions Procedure
Freshmen are admitted fall and spring. Entrance exams should be taken in the fall of the senior year.There is a rolling admissions plan. Application deadlines are open. 31 applicants were on the 2005 waiting list; 22 were admitted. Applications are accepted on-line.
Transfer Students
35 transfer students enrolled in 2004-2005. Applicants must have a minimum 2.0 GPA, 2.5 for some majors, be in good standing at their previous school, and have a minimum ACT score of 17. 30 of 128 credits required for the bachelor's degree must be completed at ALC.
Visiting
There are regularly scheduled orientations for prospective students, consisting of summer and fall orientations.
