Posted by enotechris on Saturday May 17, 2008 at 9:31 AMKate had urged George to marry Lydia so he could stay out of the war. “While you were getting mad about Fascism Frank was getting into her bed.” Lydia eventually marries Frank, who beat the draft, and “who never reads anything...has 3 children and his house paid off.” Kate’s attitude is to take the “practical” path and take advantage of situations, and not look too deep into causes and effects. Her attitude is reflected by her husband’s “practical” solution of solving the manufacturing problems at the plant during the war, and neither of them come to terms with the consequences of their actions until the end of the play.
