Although Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn’s reputation rests largely on his long prose works, this prolific writer sought to experiment in numerous genres. The short story “Matryona’s House” is an excellent example of Solzhenitsyn’s attention to detail as well as his reverence for old Russian values as exemplified by the peasant woman Matryona and her home.
