AIDS | Education Programs Prevent High-Risk Behavior

James Loyce is the executive director of AIDS Project Los Angeles, one of the nation’s largest AIDS service organizations. In the following viewpoint, Loyce contends that AIDS education programs can persuade individuals at risk of HIV infection to change their behavior to reduce their risk. However, he asserts, in order to be effective, the education programs must be designed for the specific audience they are meant to reach and must help participants to develop the skills and self-confidence necessary for changing their behavior.
