The Aeneid has been translated frequently, into every major language in the world, and there are at least eight English versions. Apart from the fact that it is a world classic, this epic poem is also a gripping tale of destiny, of heroism and weakness, and of people's relationships with the forces that surround and, to a large degree, control them. It is also a penetrating psychological study: every action and decision has an understandable motivation, even those of the notoriously capricious gods and goddesses of the Roman pantheon.
