The theme of chapter 12 is mind your own business and don't let your curiosity lead you to get involved in a dangerous situation. In chapter 12, Huck and Jim encounter a heavy rain. They see that a boat is hung up on a rock. It is a steamboat. Jim says not to bother because they might get into trouble. However Huck doesn't take heed. Instead, he investigates. This causes a lot of trouble because Huck overhears a conversation between two men on the boat. They are plotting to kill another man for money they stole together. Huck is excited because he thinks he can get the money. They can't find their raft and are stuck on the steamboat with the dangerous men. In chapter 13, they get away and recover the missing raft. They even make off with some loot, but it was very dangerous.
