In Chapters 17-23 what people or things appear to be one way, but are actually very different underneath? Like when Huck pretends he is a boy whose family has small pox, but really Huck is actually trying to protect Jim. Please list other examples just like this if you think of any. Colonel Grangerford is a "gentleman" who dresses smartly, treats his slaves well, goes to church, and who murders his neighbors. Charlotte Grangerford pretends to hate the Shepardsons like the rest of her family when in truth, she is much like Juliet Capulet in love with Romeo Montague. She eventually runs off with her Shepardson lover after they have passed notes through a hymn book at the church. The Duke and the Dauphin aren't anything but plain and simple con-artists. There's not a drop of royal blood in either of them. They also pretend that they want to protect Jim for Huck, but they are secretly always plotting ways to con people out of their property and money. They intend to sell Jim, which they eventually do. There are others...keep looking!
