   I am not sure exactly what you mean.  Are you looking for a summary analysis of this particular story, a bio of Conan Doyle, or an compendeum of various Holmes short stories?  All might be satisfied with "The New Annotated Sherlock Holmes," a two-volume set.  Here is an excerpt from the review by Publisher's Weekly: 

   "illuminating citations to early drafts of Doyle's original manuscripts,and full discussions of the numerous theories developed over more than a century concerning ambiguities, contradictions and unresolved issues in the stories. Those new to such scholarship will be fascinated by the sophisticated multidisciplined approach, much of it based on close readings and historical research similar to Bible study. "

   If you want a biography of Arthur Conan Doyle, enotes has that, as well as any other information you might want about the short story. There is also a site that provides the entire text of the short story for free. Just go to the links below.
