Helen Stoner tells Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson that her step father Dr. Roylott of the family of Stoke Moran liked to keep the following animals:

"He has a passion also for Indian animals, which are sent over to him by a correspondent, and he has at this moment a cheetah and a baboon, which wander freely over his grounds and are feared by the villagers almost as much as their master."

A cheetah is an atypical member of the cat family in that it cannot climb trees like other members of its species. It is the fastest land animal with a phenomenal speed of acceleration from 0 to 103 KMPH in just 3 seconds.

A baboon is a wild monkey.
