She never really commits the act of adultery, but she does consider it in her mind. That act alone raises the question if the will to commit the act is as bad as committing the act itself. Perhaps that has meaning in the story's title. Janine reflects on her youth with admiration. She was proud of who she was and what she looked like. Now that she's older and heavier, she doesn't have the confidence she once did. However, she does know that she is still attractive to other men. So, the main theme is really not about the act of cheating, but it is really about Janine being able to regain her lost youth. She wants what she used to have and to be able to offer it once again without having to make a decision in marriage based on security.
