Andre Agassi won two U.S. Opens (1994, 1999) and a total of five major championships in men's tennis, just the fifth man to win individual titles in all four majors during their career. He also won a gold medal at the 1996 Olympic Games.

Davey Allison won the Daytona 500 and Winston 500 in 1992. Allison drove to victory in eleven Winston Cup races from 1991 to 1993, before he died after a helicopter crash in 1993.

Bonnie Blair won two Olympic gold medals as a speed skater at Lillehammer, Norway, and was named Associated Press (AP) Woman Athlete of the Year in 1994. She also won two gold medals two years earlier in Albertville, France.

Barry Bonds was the National League (NL) Most Valuable Player (MVP) in 1990; he stole at least thirty bases and hit at least thirty home runs five times during the decade, matching his father's mark (Bobby Bonds, 1968—1981).
