About the Author: Johnnie L. Cochran, Jr. (1937–) earned his law degree from Loyola University in 1962. He worked for the Los Angeles City Attorney's Office from 1962 to 1965 before establishing his own practice. Specializing in police-brutality lawsuits, Cochran eventually won over $45 million in judgments against the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD).
