About the Author: Diane H. Pilgrim (1942–) received her education at Pennsylvania State University and New York University's Institute of Fine Arts. She held research positions at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and then served as curator of decorative arts at the Brooklyn Museum. In 1988, Pilgrim was appointed as director of the Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum of the Smithsonian Institution. Pilgrim writes frequently for various art journals and also has contributed to several books on design.
