Winston’s writing is interrupted by his neighbor, Comrade—or Mrs.—Parsons, who asks his help with a repair. Her children play a favorite game: Spies. Thinking of the “child heroes” who denounce their parents, Winston supposes that the Parsons’ children are typical of most others.
