About the Author: Warren Earl Burger (1907–1995), born in St. Paul, Minnesota, received his law degree in 1931 from St. Paul College of Law. He served from 1953 to 1956 as an assistant attorney general. Burger was then appointed as a judge to the United States Court of Appeals, a position he held from 1956 to 1969. Nominated by President Nixon, he served as chief justice of the Supreme Court from 1969 to 1986. Burger was noted for...
