About the Organization: The Great Lakes Mink Association (GLMA) was formed in 1941 by mink ranchers in the Great Lakes region to further research and to promote the ranchers' interests. It merged with the Mutation Mink Breeders Association in 1986 to form the American Legend Cooperative.
Introduction
"What becomes a legend most?" was the question posed by one of the most famous fashion advertising campaigns of all time. Launched in 1968, the ads for Blackglama furs answered the question with glamorous black-and-white photos of stars wrapped in luxurious mink. The images were shot by Richard Avedon and, after 1972, Bill King.
