About the Authors: Byron White (1917–2002) was a Rhodes Scholar and a talented athlete in college. He received his law degree from Yale University and served in World War II (1939–1945), winning two Bronze Stars. Appointed to the Supreme Court in 1962, he served until 1993. William Brennan Jr. (1906–1997) went to Harvard University for his law degree. In 1952, he was appointed to the New Jersey Supreme Court.
