About the Authors: Potter Stewart (1915–1985) graduated from Yale Law School in 1941. He practiced law until he was nominated by President Dwight Eisenhower (served 1953–1961) for the U.S. Court of Appeals in 1954 and then for the Supreme Court in 1958. He retired in 1981.
