About the Author: Norma McCorvey (1947–) was born into a broken home. By twenty-three, she was pregnant for the third time and wanted an abortion. This led her to becoming the plaintiff in Roe v. Wade (1973). McCorvey, though, was not directly involved in the suit, and it was not until the late 1980s that she publicly announced herself as "Jane Roe."
