About the Authors: Thomas C. Clark (1898–1980), a native of Texas, was appointed U.S. attorney general in 1945. He served on the U.S. Supreme Court from 1949 to 1967. William O. Douglas (1899–1977) was one of the youngest men ever to be appointed to the Supreme Court and served the longest of any justice: thirty-six years.
