About the Architect: Marcel Breuer (1902–1981) was born in the provincial town of Pécs, Hungary. He began his architectural studies in Vienna, but was soon drawn to the Bauhaus School in the Weimar and Dessau. There, he studied and taught during the 1920s, specializing in furniture design. His tubular steel chairs, developed during this period, are now considered furniture classics. Upon leaving Bauhaus, Breuer started his own architectural firm in Berlin.
