About the Architect: Eero Saarinen (1910–1961) was born in Helsinki, Finland, the son of artist Loja Saarinen and co-founder and first president of the Cranbrook Academy of Art, the renowned Finnish architect Eliel Saarinen. The younger Saarinen emigrated to the United States with his family in 1923. He began his studies in Paris, majoring in sculpture. Although this art education was to inform all his later work, after one year he turned to architecture, which he studied at Yale University.
