About the Author: Georgia Elma Harkness (1891–1974) was born in Harkness, New York, and received her Ph.D. from Brown University in 1912. Her academic career took her to Elmira College in New York; Garrett Theological Seminary in Evanston, Illinois; and, during the 1950s, to the Pacific School of Religion in Berkeley, California. Her major focus was applied theology, and she wrote over three dozen books on religion.
