About the Publication: Following the development of the portable 35 millimeter camera, Henry R. Luce founded Life Magazine in November 1936. What made this publication different from all the others was that its photographs, rather than its text, served as the skeleton of this weekly publication—something unheard of prior to its inception. After being a weekly for thirty-seven years, in December 1972 it was published in semiannual special reports, and then in 1978 it shifted yet again to being published monthly.
