About the Author: Paul Tillich (1886–1965), born in Starzeddel, Prussia, taught theology and philosophy at several German universities before coming to the United States in 1933. He was appointed Professor of Philosophical Theology at Union Theological Seminary in New York City, where he remained until 1955.
