About the Authors: Joe Simon wrote and Jack Kirby (1918–1994) illustrated some of the most vibrant comic books of the 1940s, the "Golden Age" of comics. The pair created Captain America, the embodiment of American ideals and patriotism, and continued working for Marvel Comics until the comic book industry failed after the end of World War II (1939–1945). Kirby and Simon resurrected their careers as the comic business boomed again in the 1960s, the beginning of the "Silver Age" of comic books.
