About the Artist: James Allen St. John (1872–1957) developed his artistic talents under the influence of his mother, Susan Hely St. John. He provided drawings for books, including The Works of Mark Twain (1899), but it was St. John's artwork for the adventure stories of Edgar Rice Burroughs that gained him the most attention.
