About the Author: Wilford M. Aikin (1882–1965) was born in Ohio. A leading progressive educator, he taught in various high schools before directing a private academy, the John Burroughs School, in St. Louis, Missouri. In 1930, Aikin became chairman of the Commission on the Relation of Schools and College of the Progressive Education Association (PEA), which sponsored the Eight-Year Study.
