About the Author: Theodore Roosevelt Augustus Major Poston (1906–1974) was born in Hopkinsville, KY. He worked various odd jobs until landing his first writing job as a reporter for the New York daily Amsterdam News in 1929, where he was the first black to work full time at a white-owned daily. He became city editor of the paper in 1934, but was fired for organizing a strike in 1936. He then worked as a writer for the Works Progress Administration until being hired as a reporter for the New York...
