About the Authors: Harold Loeb (1891–1974) graduated from Princeton University and had a brief and unrewarding experience in business before beginning a literary career. He wrote several novels and published a literary magazine. After a 1929 trip to Palestine raised his interest in Zionism, he published several articles on the subject. In the early 1930s, Loeb began working as an economist for the federal government. He went on to write four books on economics. Loeb became acquainted with author Ernest Hemingway and other American expatriates while living in Paris.
