About the Author: George W. Norris (1861–1944) was a senator from Nebraska from 1912 to 1943. Ohio-born, Norris settled in Nebraska in 1885. He practiced law and was elected to the House of Representatives in 1902. Norris was an independent-minded Republican with strong ties to the Progressive wing of the party. He was eventually pressured to resign from the Republican Party in 1936 for supporting Franklin Roosevelt. A person of high principles and integrity, Norris is particularly known for his advocacy of democratic election reforms, the Tennessee Valley Authority, labor, and a progressive...
