About the Author: James Clark McReynolds (1862–1946) was born in Kentucky. McReynolds served as Woodrow Wilson's attorney general and in 1914 was appointed by him to the U.S. Supreme Court. McReynolds wrote the opinion in the Supreme Court's decision in Pierce v. Society of the Sisters. He died on August 24, 1946, at the age of eighty-four.
