About the Author: George N. Shuster (1894–1977) was a prominent American Catholic educator and author. He taught at the University of Notre Dame, was editor of Commonweal magazine, and was president of Hunter College in New York City. He died on January 25, 1977, at the age of eighty-two.

George N. Shuster was educated in the Catholic school system and graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 1915. After college, he worked as a journalist in Chicago until World War I (1914–1918).
