About the Author: Louis D. Brandeis (1856–1941), the first Jewish member of the Supreme Court, was raised in Louisville, Kentucky. He graduated from Harvard with one of the highest grade point averages in the history of the school. Nominated for the Supreme Court in 1916 by President Woodrow Wilson (served 1913–1921), Brandeis is famous for being one of the Court's most brilliant jurists and for his thorough examinations of cases.
