About the Publication: An ordained minister, Lyman Abbott (1835–1922) was the editor of the weekly magazine the Outlook, which started in 1876 as the Christian Union. In the Outlook, Abbott promoted the views of the moderate Protestant progressivism movement and solicited the help of President Theodore Roosevelt (served 1901–1909) to serve as an associate editor. It was one of the most influential magazines of its day.
